Primary Purpose:

Accurately interpret or translate written and spoken language such as confidential information in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings, phone calls, and documents. Responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken language or written documents from one language to another (Spanish/English).

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma

Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate preferred

Bilingual and Bi-literate in Spanish

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work as a team member

Ability to work with children with disabilities

Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (oral and written communication)

Excellent Bilingual communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficient computer skills

Experience:

Experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Serve as interpreter/translator between parents and special education staff.

2. Assist GCSEC staff in assessment of Spanish speaking students.

3. Provides written translation of ARD documents and other forms as required. Convert Spanish or English language from one language into another.

4. Edit and proofread text to accurately reflect language.

5. Create a new text in the target language that reproduces the content and style of the original

6. Participate in ARD meetings by interpreting/translating ARD discussion.

7. Participate in folder review process for compliance.

8. General office responsibilities related to the job responsibility.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
