Primary Purpose:
Provide diagnostic assessment and therapy services to students with disabilities. Design and provide
therapy focusing on functional mobility and safe, efficient access and participation in educational
activities and routines in natural learning environments.

Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program
* Valid Texas license as a Physical Therapist
* Experience in Special Education preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Competently administer required formal and informal assessment instruments
2. Collect, interpret, and report student assessment data and other reports as required
3. Use data appropriately for assisting in student placement and instructional programs as needed
4. Provide direct or consultative physical therapy to students with disabilities as determined by the
ARD committee
5. Maintain confidentiality of student information except when the student’s condition requires
intervention
6. Communicate effectively with school personnel and parents as appropriate for student needs
7. Participate in the IEP process, including collaboratively determining the need for physical
therapy as a related service under IDEA
8. Design and implement physical therapy interventions that allow students to benefit from their
educational program
9. Make recommendations for adaptation of environments to facilitate student access and
participation in the educational program
10. Serve as liaison among school, medical personnel, and medical equipment vendors
11. Communicate with all parties in a professional manner
12. Cooperate effectively in the role of counselor with appropriate agencies, community groups and
school organizations
13. Support programs and actions that facilitate a positive, caring climate for learning
14. Utilize appropriate data information systems and records necessary for attainment of the
special education department’s mission and overall school improvement efforts
15. Plan, conduct or assist with staff development regarding special education issues
16. Participate in staff development training programs, workshops, and other training as
appropriate
17. Follow all state and federal guidelines, board policies and district procedures as required

Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), interpret policies and procedures, reason, read,
understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, coordinate, compile, instruct, and maintain
emotional control.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight, sit, stand, walk, reach, repetitive hand motions, hear, speak,
and frequent travel within the cooperative/districts and occasionally outside the cooperative boundaries
and/or county. May experience prolonged and irregular works hours and work with frequent
interruptions.
